There is no law that says you must hold SSIP accreditation. What there is, is a buyer who will not let you on site without it.
Main contractors, local authorities, housing associations and facilities management firms use SSIP certificates as a quick way of checking a supplier can manage health and safety. No certificate usually means no approved supplier status, and no approved supplier status means no work.
The law itself sits underneath. The Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 and CDM 2015 all place duties on you. An SSIP certificate is simply independent proof that you are meeting them.
If a client has asked for it, the answer is yes. If they have not asked yet, they probably will. Call SSIP Help on 07917 307942 or email office@ssiphelp.co.uk.
