The Electronic Lathe, developed by TS Harrison in the 1990s to bridge the gap between manual and CNC lathes, now delivers the 5th generation machine. Models with a 350mm swing over the bed to 1000mm diameter swings with up to 6000mm between centres and 380mm spindle bores are available. Many special cycles designed by FANUC and Harrison for the current generation of Harrison Alphas with a FANUC OiTD control are not seen on other machines. The Alpha series' continued success is due to its quick set-up times and straightforward use in all modes. The Alpha series takes advantage of OiTD's ultra-high-speed CNC control as well as Harrison's own Alphalink software.
