Every bearing has a temperature ceiling. With the right lubricant, chrome steel manages 150°C and 440 stainless 300°C. Beyond that, the material has to change.
For furnaces, metallurgy and blast furnace kit, SMB Bearings stocks full complement ceramic bearings with no ball retainer. Full complement silicon nitride bearings have been used successfully above 800°C.
Some customers use them below 300°C too, where lubricant would cause contamination problems.
Adding PEEK or PTFE retainers or seals caps the bearing at about 250°C. Watch your fits as well: a 316 stainless shaft or housing expands far more than ceramic.
