440 grade stainless is the usual starting point and can be supplied with chemically resistant or food approved lubricants. For more aggressive environments, there is 316 grade stainless.
Plastics are chosen by chemistry. Acetal copes well with many alcohols and chlorides, polypropylene resists acids and alkalis, and PEEK handles a wide range of chemicals.
Full ceramic bearings in zirconium dioxide and silicon nitride offer excellent corrosion resistance and are held in stock.
