What is deep hole drilling?

Deep hole drilling produces holes that are long relative to their diameter, often many times deeper than they are wide. Standard twist drills wander and choke on chips at those depths.

Specialist gun drills and ejector drills use high pressure coolant to flush chips out and keep the hole straight. The result is accurate hole position, tight diametric tolerance, good straightness and a fine surface finish. Typical parts include hydraulic rams, drive shafts, con rods, heater platens, mould tools and plate rolls.

PRV supplies defence, switchgear, rail, automotive, oil and gas, pharmaceutical, petrochemical, food processing, aerospace, actuation, power generation, mechanical handling and valve customers. Batch size runs from a single prototype to full production, in materials from mild steel to titanium and nickel alloys.
