On site deep hole drilling brings the process to parts that can't be moved. PRV drills on site up to 75mm diameter and 3000mm deep. From its 54,000 sq ft site in Pontypool, South Wales, PRV Engineering has been machining, fabricating and finishing for UK industry since 1986.
PRV runs 10 deep hole drilling machines with a full stock of gun drills, ejector drills and counterboring heads. On non-cylindrical components, holes from 5mm to 100mm diameter can be drilled in any position at up to 3000mm centres, with workpieces up to 4 tonnes. On cylindrical parts the range is 5mm to 200mm diameter at up to 5000mm long, again up to 4 tonnes. On-site drilling is available up to 75mm diameter and 3000mm deep. Hole position, diametric tolerance, straightness and surface finish are all held tight.
Deep hole drilling is a specialist skill. Standard twist drills wander, overheat and break as holes get deeper. Gun drills and ejector drills use high pressure coolant to clear chips and keep the hole straight over depths many times the diameter. Choosing a specialist with the right tooling and experience saves scrapped parts, which on expensive forgings or bars is money well saved.
Power generation plant uses big, heavy, high value parts where accuracy and reliability are everything. PRV has the large capacity machining, deep hole drilling and electrical component capability to support generation and distribution customers.
Materials range from everyday mild steels through to stainless, aluminium, copper and exotics such as Monel, Inconel, Hastelloy and titanium. PRV caters for one-offs, rapid prototypes and large batch production, and can hold stock for customers to call off in line with Kanban, VMI, consignment and JIT arrangements.
Every order follows a controlled route. Drawings are reviewed, materials are sourced with certification, work is planned across the shop floor and parts are inspected before dispatch. Customers get one contact who knows the job from quote to delivery.
PRV calls its approach One Answer, Many Solutions. Machining, waterjet cutting, deep hole drilling, fabrication, painting, powder coating, plating, installation and maintenance all sit under one roof, so customers deal with one company and raise one purchase order. Quality is controlled to BS EN ISO 9001:2015, BS EN 1090 EXC3, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
