CNC machining for the rail industry covers brackets, mounts, housings and electrical parts for rolling stock and trackside equipment. PRV machines them to drawing, in batches that suit maintenance and new build programmes. PRV Engineering has been trading from Pontypool, South Wales since 1986 and now runs a well equipped 54,000 sq ft facility.
The CNC department runs 30 machining centres with a wide capacity range. Turning covers components from 6mm up to 600mm diameter and over 2500mm long, while milling handles work up to 3000mm x 850mm x 750mm with true 4th and 5th axis capability at 0.001 degree resolution. Renishaw probing, helical milling, auto pallet change and laser tool break detection keep spindles cutting and parts consistent. CAD/CAM links take IGS, STP, DXF, DGN and VDA files straight to programme, so complex components get from drawing to first-off without hanging about.
When choosing a CNC machining supplier, look past the hourly rate. Ask how many machines they run, what size envelope they can handle, how they inspect, and whether they can finish the part with plating, painting or assembly. A supplier with capacity and in-house finishing will usually beat a cheaper shop on total cost, lead time and hassle. PRV ticks every one of those boxes.
The rail industry relies on components that stand up to vibration, weather and years of service. PRV supplies rolling stock and trackside customers with machined parts, fabrications and copper electrical components, made to drawing and inspected before dispatch.
PRV works from customer drawings, specifications or OEM samples. Mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium, copper and exotic alloys are all handled, in quantities from one to full production, with call off stock available to keep your shelves lean.
The process is simple. Send a drawing, CAD model, specification or sample. PRV reviews it, flags any manufacturing concerns and quotes promptly. Once ordered, the job is planned through the relevant departments, inspected against your requirements and dispatched with the paperwork you need.
Being a true one stop shop is the big advantage. A part can be cut, machined, welded, plated and painted without ever leaving the site, which cuts lead times, removes supplier handovers and keeps quality in one pair of hands. Accreditations include BS EN ISO 9001:2015, BS EN 1090 EXC3, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, Constructionline and Acclaim SSIP.
