Manual machining for repairs and one-offs avoids programming time on single parts. PRV's conventional machines all have programmable digital readouts. Established in 1986, PRV Engineering operates from a 54,000 sq ft precision engineering facility in Pontypool, South Wales.
Alongside CNC, PRV keeps a strong conventional machine shop. Turning capacity runs up to 520mm diameter x 2m, 920mm diameter x 3m with a 2m taper facility, 1200mm diameter x 350mm and 200mm diameter x 3500mm. Milling goes up to X 1750mm x Y 1000mm x Z 750mm. Universal grinding covers 300mm diameter x 900mm external and 250mm x 350mm internal, with surface grinding to 900mm x 400mm x 400mm. Webster and Bennett 3ft and 4ft vertical borers, TOS and Forges de Gilly horizontal borers and an AGIE plunge spark erosion machine complete the line up, all with programmable digital readouts.
CNC isn't always the answer. For one-offs, repairs and very large parts, conventional machines and a skilled machinist are often quicker and cheaper than writing a programme. PRV keeps both, so each job goes down the most cost effective route.
PRV serves a broad spread of industries including defence, medium to high voltage switchgear, rail, high performance automotive, oil and gas, pharmaceutical, petrochemical, food processing, aerospace, actuation, power generation, mechanical handling and valves. Whatever the sector, the standard is the same.
PRV works from customer drawings, specifications or OEM samples. Mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium, copper and exotic alloys are all handled, in quantities from one to full production, with call off stock available to keep your shelves lean.
The process is simple. Send a drawing, CAD model, specification or sample. PRV reviews it, flags any manufacturing concerns and quotes promptly. Once ordered, the job is planned through the relevant departments, inspected against your requirements and dispatched with the paperwork you need.
One supplier, one order, one point of contact. That is the PRV promise. Every major process from cutting to final finish is done in Pontypool under ISO 9001:2015, with BS EN 1090 EXC3, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 alongside. A continuous improvement and design for manufacture mindset means customers often end up with a better part at a lower cost.
