Deep hole drilling con rods creates the oil feed passage along the rod. PRV drills con rods accurately for performance and industrial engines. PRV Engineering has been trading from Pontypool, South Wales since 1986 and now runs a well equipped 54,000 sq ft facility.
PRV runs 10 deep hole drilling machines with a full stock of gun drills, ejector drills and counterboring heads. On non-cylindrical components, holes from 5mm to 100mm diameter can be drilled in any position at up to 3000mm centres, with workpieces up to 4 tonnes. On cylindrical parts the range is 5mm to 200mm diameter at up to 5000mm long, again up to 4 tonnes. On-site drilling is available up to 75mm diameter and 3000mm deep. Hole position, diametric tolerance, straightness and surface finish are all held tight.
Deep hole drilling is a specialist skill. Standard twist drills wander, overheat and break as holes get deeper. Gun drills and ejector drills use high pressure coolant to clear chips and keep the hole straight over depths many times the diameter. Choosing a specialist with the right tooling and experience saves scrapped parts, which on expensive forgings or bars is money well saved.
High performance automotive and motorsport teams want light, strong, accurate parts and they want them fast. PRV handles prototype and short batch work with quick turnaround, and the multi-axis plant copes with the complex geometry performance engineering throws up.
Batch size is not a problem. One-offs, pre-production runs and high volume schedules all go through the same controlled process. Materials cover the full spread from mild steel to titanium and nickel alloys, and Kanban, VMI, consignment and JIT supply can be set up for repeat lines.
PRV keeps things simple for buyers. One quote covers every process, one purchase order covers the whole job, and one team is accountable for the result. Material certificates, inspection reports and conformity paperwork are supplied as required.
One supplier, one order, one point of contact. That is the PRV promise. Every major process from cutting to final finish is done in Pontypool under ISO 9001:2015, with BS EN 1090 EXC3, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 alongside. A continuous improvement and design for manufacture mindset means customers often end up with a better part at a lower cost.
