CNC turned valve stems and spindles need straightness, accurate threads and good surface finish. PRV turns them in stainless and exotic alloys for new and replacement valves. PRV Engineering has been trading from Pontypool, South Wales since 1986 and now runs a well equipped 54,000 sq ft facility.
PRV turning capacity runs from 250mm diameter x 500mm long with simultaneous dual axis machining, through 350mm diameter lathes with 70mm bar feed, sub-spindle processing and Y and C axis live tooling, up to 600mm diameter x 2600mm long. Live tooling means flats, cross holes and milled features are done in the same set up. CAD/CAM programming gets even awkward profiles on the machine quickly, and every lathe is backed by in-house inspection.
Turned parts look simple, but concentricity, thread quality and surface finish make or break them. The right lathe for the job matters too. Bar fed machines suit repeat work, live tooling saves secondary operations, and big chucks handle large diameters. PRV has all three, so each job goes on the machine that gives the best result at the best price.
Valve manufacturers need accurate bodies, stems, seats and spindles in a wide range of materials. PRV machines valve components from mild steel through to stainless and exotic alloys, in one-offs or repeat batches.
Batch size is not a problem. One-offs, pre-production runs and high volume schedules all go through the same controlled process. Materials cover the full spread from mild steel to titanium and nickel alloys, and Kanban, VMI, consignment and JIT supply can be set up for repeat lines.
PRV keeps things simple for buyers. One quote covers every process, one purchase order covers the whole job, and one team is accountable for the result. Material certificates, inspection reports and conformity paperwork are supplied as required.
One supplier, one order, one point of contact. That is the PRV promise. Every major process from cutting to final finish is done in Pontypool under ISO 9001:2015, with BS EN 1090 EXC3, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 alongside. A continuous improvement and design for manufacture mindset means customers often end up with a better part at a lower cost.
