Storage Aspects recently completed a project to provide Ipswich Council with a fit out for a new warehouse storage facility. The project installation was completed over a 3 week period; safely, on time and to budget with all work being undertaken by our professional and experienced Team.
Scope of the Project
- Warehouse Functionality: Pallet storage, timber storage, small items and pick bins, glass stores, and chemical stores.
- Project Management: Worked with architect on design and layout, advised on capacity, ensured safe construction on time and budget.
- Additional Services: Specified and supplied stacker truck for material handling, including operator training.
Pallet Racking
The pallet racking system in the new Ipswich Council warehouse is meticulously designed to maximise storage capacity whilst incorporating the preferred manual handling equipment. This system is crucial for efficiently utilising available warehouse space, ensuring it accommodates a large volume of goods.
Views during the build
The layout, a strategic combination of a bottom-level pick shelving system and pallet storage above effectively enhances operational efficiency. The pick shelving system allows easy access to frequently picked items, consequentially reducing time spent on retrieval, thus increasing productivity. Above this, the pallet storage provides ample space for bulkier items, ensuring that the warehouse can handle a diverse range of products. The warehouse is partitioned with mesh panels to seggregate the different areas, which are secured by locking doors at the front. This partitioning not only enhances security but also allows for better organisation and management of different inventory categories.
The use of mesh panels ensures visibility across the warehouse, making it easier to monitor stock levels and maintain order. The pallet racking system is complemented by the use of a stacker truck, which was specified alongside the pallet racking to facilitate efficient pallet handling. Operator training was also provided to ensure that staff are proficient in using the equipment safely and effectively.
This comprehensive approach to pallet racking ensures that the warehouse operates smoothly and efficiently meeting the needs of Ipswich Council and supporting its operational goals.
Timber Storage
The timber storage solution in the warehouse is tailored specifically to meet the Council’s requirements. This ensures efficient storage of various timber lengths.
A cantilever rack has been designed to accommodate different dimensions of timber, provide flexibility and maximise use of available space. This type of rack is ideal for storing long and bulky items as it allows for easy access and retrieval without the need for aisles between racks. Within the joinery area, small timber racking is utilised to store various lengths of timber ensuring that all materials are organised and easily accessible. This setup not only enhances efficiency but also helps in maintaining the quality of the timber by preventing damage and ensuring proper ventilation.
The design of the timber storage system reflects a commitment to meeting the specific needs of the Council. As a result, this enables the warehouse to effectively support its operations. By providing a dedicated space for timber storage the warehouse can streamline its processes and reduce the time spent searching for materials, ultimately contributing to increased productivity and operational efficiency.
Glass Storage
The glass storage rack in the warehouse storage facility is designed with safety and organisation in mind. Glass items are stored securely and segregated by size. The rack features slots that are specifically designed to hold glass panels safely, preventing breakage and damage.
This thoughtful design minimises the risk of accidents and ensures that the glass remains in pristine condition. The segregation of glass by size further enhances safety as it reduces the likelihood of larger panels being placed on top of smaller ones, which could lead to breakage. The glass storage system is an essential component of the warehouse. It ensures that glass items are handled with care and stored in a manner that maximises space efficiency.
By providing a dedicated space for glass storage, the warehouse can streamline its operations. This effectively reduces the time spent searching for specific glass items. This contributes to increased productivity and operational efficiency as staff can quickly locate and retrieve the glass they need. The design of the glass storage rack reflects a commitment to safety and organisation. The upshot being to ensure that the warehouse can effectively support its operations and meet the needs of Ipswich Council.
Small Items
The warehouse storage solution for small items is optimised for both storage capacity and fast picking operations. Pick shelving with bins is used to store small items allowing for easy access and quick retrieval. This setup is particularly beneficial for items that are frequently picked as it reduces the time spent searching for them. This solution increases overall productivity.
Long items are stored within special vertical racks, ensuring that they are organised and easily accessible. This approach not only maximises space efficiency but also helps in maintaining the quality of items. It also prevents damage by providing proper storage conditions.
Door lock mechanisms are stored on custom-made support racks, ensuring that they are organised and easily accessible when needed. This thoughtful design reflects a commitment to efficiency and organisation, ensuring that the warehouse can effectively support its operations. By providing a dedicated space for small items the warehouse can streamline its processes. This decreases the time spent searching for materials, ultimately contributing to increased productivity and operational efficiency.
The design of the small items storage system is a testament to the warehouse’s focus on meeting the specific needs of Ipswich Council, ensuring that it can effectively support its operations and achieve its goals.
Chemical Stores
The chemical storage facilities in the new warehouse storage building are designed with safety and containment in mind. For example, an essential requirement being to enable any chemical spills to be effectively managed.
Corrosion-resistant shelf levels are used to store chemicals, preventing damage to the shelving and ensuring the safety of chemicals. This type of shelving is ideal for storing corrosive substances as it can withstand exposure to chemicals without deteriorating. Additionally, a bunded shelf design is employed to contain any chemical spills ensuring that they cannot spread and cause harm. This design feature is crucial for maintaining a safe working environment and preventing accidents.
The chemical storage system is an essential component of the warehouse, as it means that chemicals are stored safely and securely. By providing a dedicated space for chemical storage, the warehouse has streamlined its operations and thus reduced the risk of accidents. This contributes to increased productivity and operational efficiency, as staff can quickly locate and retrieve the chemicals they need.
The design of the chemical storage facilities reflects a commitment to safety and containment. The goal, to ensure that the warehouse effectively supports its operations, meeting the needs of Ipswich Council. This approach not only enhances safety but also ensures compliance with relevant regulations and standards. Ultimately further underscoring the warehouse’s dedication to maintaining a safe and efficient working environment.
