RFA Lyme Bay Returns to the Tyne

RFA Lyme Bay has docked in the River Tyne for the first time in over 15 years—and Rubb is proud to play a small but significant part in the vessel’s ongoing story.

Rubb originally installed the 15m span, 18m long NV structure on the deck of RFA Lyme Bay back in 2015. Designed to provide a protected environment for operations and storage, the structure has since supported various missions across the globe, including humanitarian deployments and military exercises such as Predators Run.

Now, as the ship returns to its home waters for refit and maintenance, the Rubb team will be facilitating maintenance of the structure almost exactly 10 years since its original installation.

The project was delivered in partnership with A&P Group, who continue to support the RFA fleet through their longstanding work at A&P Falmouth and A&P Tyne. With Rubb’s facility just a short distance from the dockyard, our team is well placed to ensure the structure continues to perform at its best in the demanding maritime environment.

This is the first time Royal Fleet Auxiliary vessels have docked on the River Tyne in over 15 years. Our shipyards are busier than ever before, ensuring the Royal Navy, Royal Fleet Auxiliary and the international seaborne community are ready and available.
