EFASS hangars support RAF Typhoon deployment to Qatar

Rubb UK’s EFASS deployable hangars continue to support the Royal Air Force’s global operations, following the relocation of several 20.4 m structures from RAF Akrotiri to Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar.

These hangars are now in place to support No. 12 Squadron, the joint UK–Qatar Typhoon unit, which has deployed its Eurofighter Typhoon FGR4 aircraft to the Gulf under the UK–Qatar Defence Assurance Agreement. The squadron routinely operates in Qatar to conduct combined training and develop shared operational experience with the Qatar Emiri Air Force, building on regular exercises such as Epic Skies and Soaring Falcon.

The relocation of our EFASS hangars to Qatar highlights the value of a deployable system that can move with the mission. We focus on delivering infrastructure that enhances readiness and supports effective operations in any environment.

Supporting long‑standing cooperation

12 Squadron’s latest overseas activity reflects the continued cooperation between the UK and Qatar across flying training and combat air capability. The deployment also follows recent UK investment in the Typhoon programme, reinforcing the aircraft’s ongoing role in collaborative defence activity with international partners.

The EFASS system’s proven deployability allows aircraft shelters and maintenance space to be rapidly relocated and re‑established wherever required. Each 20.4m hangar is containerised in a single 20 ft ISO unit, ensuring streamlined transport and efficient setup. This is regularly demonstrated across RAF operations, including missions supported by EFASS structures in Poland and Romania.

Engineering for the mission

The EFASS system has evolved through continual frontline feedback, shaping it into a highly adaptable solution for expeditionary air operations. Whether supporting Typhoons, Gripens or RPAS platforms with our new 30m variant, Rubb’s engineering approach ensures each structure meets specific operational requirements.

We’re proud to provide mission‑ready infrastructure that enables effective air operations wherever the RAF and its partners are deployed. The relocation of EFASS hangars to Al Udeid Air Base ensures 12 Squadron’s Typhoons benefit from reliable, flexible, and durable shelter throughout their latest deployment.
