EFASS: F-35Bs arrive at RAF Akrotiri

A formation of RAF F‑35B Lightning aircraft has arrived at RAF Akrotiri from RAF Marham, operating from within the station’s 20.4m EFASS hangar system.

The deployment sees the fifth‑generation fighters working alongside Op SHADER Typhoons, sharing real‑time battlespace information through their advanced sensor suites.

617 Squadron conducted Quick Reaction Alert training from Akrotiri, making use of the rapid‑deployment infrastructure already supporting the RAF’s frontline operations.

The F‑35B—normally based at RAF Marham—benefits from the flexibility of the EFASS system, which provides a controlled, mission‑ready environment for engineering, maintenance, and daily operations.

Our EFASS system is designed to support a full spectrum of fast jets—from Typhoon and Gripen to the latest F-35B. Its deployable, engineered framework gives air forces the flexibility to operate advanced aircraft efficiently, wherever the mission takes them.

The EFASS system has evolved through continual frontline feedback, shaping it into a highly adaptable solution for expeditionary air operations. Whether supporting Typhoons, F-35Bs, or RPAS platforms with our new 30m variant, our engineering approach ensures each structure meets specific operational requirements.

The arrival of the Lightnings further highlights the strategic role of Rubb’s deployable hangar capabilities at RAF Akrotiri, where the EFASS hangar system continues to support a range of aircraft and operational needs.
