From Wakefield to Western Australia

The system was designed, manufactured, and tested at our Wakefield headquarters in West Yorkshire, UK. Before shipment, it underwent a comprehensive Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) to ensure it met the exacting performance and throughput standards required by ICD. Following successful testing, the line was shipped, installed, and commissioned in Perth by our team of Rotajet engineers, who also provided hands-on operator training to ensure a smooth transition into full-scale production.

A Circular Approach to Superalloy Recovery

ICD Australia, part of the ICD Group, is a global leader in the processing and recycling of superalloys, nickel, cobalt, and other critical materials. The newly installed Rotajet line plays a key role in their mission to create vacuum-grade feedstock for remelting and reuse in the aerospace, energy, and advanced manufacturing sectors.

The Rotajet washing system uses our advanced S.I.B. (Submerge – Impingement – Backflow) cleaning process to remove oils, lubricants, and contaminants from machined superalloy turnings. This ensures that the recovered material is completely clean and suitable for vacuum melting applications, where even trace contamination can lead to defects in the final alloy.

Sustainable by Design

Unlike traditional solvent-based systems, the Rotajet line operates with an aqueous-based cleaning process that uses an environmentally friendly surfactant blend. This allows for continuous operation while reducing chemical waste and emissions, aligning perfectly with ICD’s sustainability goals and Australia’s growing focus on circular manufacturing.

By recovering and reusing valuable materials, ICD’s new line helps retain critical raw materials — such as nickel, cobalt, and titanium — within the global supply chain. This process not only reduces dependence on virgin mining but also significantly cuts the carbon footprint associated with producing new superalloys.

Engineering Flexibility and Precision

The modular design of the Rotajet system allows it to be configured to fit seamlessly within ICD’s existing production workflow, providing flexibility for both current and future operations. Featuring integrated wash, rinse, and dry stages — along with optional magnetic ferrous removal and bagging systems — the line delivers a consistent, high-quality output while maintaining maximum efficiency.

From Wakefield to Western Australia, this project represents another milestone in Rotajet’s commitment to engineering cleaner, more sustainable solutions for the world’s most critical materials.
