Find The Needle Add My Company

Rotajet Systems, based in Wakefield, UK, have recently installed a Swarf Degreasing Line at the Advanced Alloys facility in Thailand. The new equipment provides an advanced, energy-efficient solution for cleaning and recycling superalloy turnings to vacuum melt grade standards — helping reduce waste and promote a circular economy in high-value metals.

Long-Term Partnership Drives Global Growth for Advanced Alloys and Rotajet

Advanced Alloys, headquartered in Sheffield, are specialists in the recycling and supply of nickel, titanium, and other superalloy materials used in aerospace, energy, and precision engineering. The company has operated a Rotajet Turning Line at its Sheffield facility for many years, achieving reliable and repeatable results in the cleaning of metallic turnings. Building on that long-standing relationship, Advanced Alloys chose Rotajet once again to supply and install the latest degreasing technology at its Thai facility.

Superalloy swarf and turnings represent a valuable but challenging waste stream. During machining, these high-performance metals are coated in oils and coolants that must be removed before the material can be reused. The new Rotajet Swarf Degreasing Line provides a sustainable and effective solution by washing, rinsing, and drying the material in a fully automated continuous process.

Turning Waste into Value: A Closed-Loop Approach to Superalloy Recycling

The system features integrated oil-water separation and fine filtration, allowing cleaning fluids to be reused while reducing water and detergent consumption. This closed-loop approach minimises waste generation, conserves resources, and significantly lowers the environmental footprint of the recycling process.

By cleaning the swarf to vacuum melt grade standards, Advanced Alloys can now reintroduce this recovered material directly into high-integrity alloy production. The result is a cleaner, more efficient, and far more sustainable recycling cycle that reduces the demand for virgin raw materials and helps cut the carbon emissions associated with mining and refining.

Rotajet have delivered what they said they would, on-schedule, and without issue. The whole process has been incredibly smooth and we are very pleased with the performance of the line.

Proving the Environmental and Economic Benefits of Advanced Cleaning Technology

Since commissioning, the Thailand facility has been producing consistent and in-specification material, meeting the stringent cleanliness requirements of downstream vacuum melting. The installation transforms what was once an oily machining by-product into a high-quality secondary feedstock — demonstrating the environmental and economic benefits of investing in advanced cleaning technology.

The project reflects the shared commitment of Rotajet, Advanced Alloys, to improving sustainability across the metals industry. By combining Rotajet’s engineering expertise in Wakefield with Advanced Alloys’ metallurgical experience, the collaboration supports global efforts to make high-grade metal recycling cleaner, safer, and more resource-efficient.

As industries worldwide continue to focus on decarbonisation and responsible resource management, the installation of Rotajet’s Swarf Degreasing Line in Thailand stands as a practical example of circular manufacturing in action — proving that even the most complex and high-value materials can be sustainably recovered, cleaned, and reused at vacuum melt grade quality.
