Why is the Squire SS100CS LEV5 the World’s Strongest Padlock?

The new Stronghold SS100CS LEV5 padlock is the first ever padlock to achieve LPCB (Loss Prevention Certification Board) SR5 (security rating 5) certification, the highest possible level. There are no other padlocks that have attained this level of security accreditation, making the SS100CS the strongest padlock currently available.

To achieve this incredible standard the beefy padlock was subjected to a series of prolonged, 10 minute attacks using a wide variety of tools and tactics, known to be used by criminals and terrorists. These attack tests included angle grinder resistance, lump hammer bludgeoning, sledgehammer and chisel attacks, hooligan bar levering, steel wedges, metal punches, hacksaw attacks, bolt croppers, lock-picking and cordless drills equipped with carbide tipped drill bits. The Stronghold SS100CS LEV5 withstood all of these attacks with ease and there are currently no other padlocks available offering this level of attack resistance. To achieve SR5 accreditation the SS100CS LEV5 padlock was required to remain secure and operational after the sequential attack onslaught. This incredibly robust padlock remained totally secure and fully operational without any issues.

LEV5 refers to Level 5 of the EN 12320:2012 standard. This is the important European standard that applies to the resistance of padlocks to forced entry. The test levels progress from Level 1, which are the easiest to achieve but still very strong, to Level 5, which is the strongest. To achieve LEV5 a lock must withstand all of the sequentially applied attacks and remain secure and functional, which the Squire SS100CS LEV5 easily achieved.

The Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB) is a world renowned third party, independent certification body and part of the UK’s Building Research Establishment. Third party certification through the LPCB enables security product manufacturers to demonstrate exactly how their products perform. And LPCB certification provides end users with an exact and reliable assessment of product performance and resilience.

Highest Quality Design and Construction

The new Squire Stronghold SS100CS LEV5 joins the family of Stronghold padlocks that include the incredible SS100S/SS100CS. This predecessor padlock design uses a tough boron alloy steel shackle along with a solid steel body, electrophoretic anti-corrosion finish and anti drill protection. The predecessor achieved LPCB SR4 (security rating 4) certification along with CEN6 and Sold Secure Diamond accreditation.

The design and build of the new SS100CS LEV5 padlock has enhanced every lock component including the body, shackle, cylinder and screws, using angle-grinder resistant materials to ensure there are no weak points.

The padlock body and shackle are made from super-tough case-hardened boron steel and the shackle is reinforced with hard tungsten carbide. Case-hardening provides a cut and drill resistant hard outer surface that withstands abrasion and attacks from a variety of tools including angle grinders.

The mighty padlock shackle is 20mm thick (over three quarters of an inch) which is particularly large with many other high security padlocks offering shackles of 13-14mm. This extra shackle girth makes the shackle impossible to cut with bolt croppers which can’t get their jaws around the shackle diameter. The shackle design also includes hardened steel anti-saw features which effectively shred the teeth of the attacking saw blade.

Full body encasement means the locking mechanism is entirely enclosed within the hardened steel padlock body with no exposed points of attack-vulnerability. This makes the lock impossible to successfully breach using pry bars, chisels or similar tools. The padlock features an electrophoretic anti-corrosion finish along with a storm proof covering, tested to withstand salt spray for 480 hours with excellent corrosion resistance.

Another important security feature is the ball-bearing locking system. This form of lock mechanism is far more resistant to pounding attacks and torsion attacks than simpler spring loaded latch mechanisms.

Squire SS100CS LEV5 Physical Specifications

This state of the art, super tough padlock is heavy and large. Here are the physical specifications.

Vertical clearance and horizontal clearance measurements refer to the space underneath the padlock shackle. This space determines the dimensions of whatever is being locked such as a hasp and staple, padbar or chain.

Lock Cylinders and Keys

The Stronghold SS100CS LEV5 features two solid brass 6-pin lock cylinders offering an incredible 625 million key differs, which means there is no chance someone else will have keys to fit the lock. Brass lock cylinders ensure the lock mechanisms are corrosion resistant, making the padlock suitable for use in arduous outdoor conditions. The anti-bump, anti-drill and anti-pick lock technology comfortably withstood the wide range of attack tests, carried out by the LPCB, enabling Level 5 certification.

Dual lock cylinders ensure that even if one side is ever compromised (highly unlikely) unauthorised access is still prevented. And the dual key requirement supports enhanced security protocols in environments where each key is held by separate responsible personnel.

The padlock is supplied with 2 x keys per cylinder (total of 4 keys) which can be keyed alike or keyed to differ, as required. Importantly, each lock also comes with a unique Squire security key card to prevent unauthorised key duplication.

Who is the World’s Strongest Padlock For?

It should be clear that this incredible padlock isn’t for standard domestic applications. Its weight, size, resilience and price means it is more ideal for high security applications where robust security is essential.

This means it can only be used with security hardware that fits into this space.
