Gold fingers on edge connectors must stay clean. Solder or flux on them means a bad connection and a rejected board.
Polyimide and Kapton tapes are the standard answer. They survive wave and reflow temperatures, don't shrink, and peel off without leaving residue on the contacts.
Getting the width right matters, so the tape covers the fingers without spilling onto areas that need soldering. Hadleigh slits polyimide tape to precise widths and can die cut shapes for repeat board designs.
