What Is the Difference Between Kapton and Polyimide Tape?

Kapton is a brand name. It is DuPont's polyimide film, and people use it the way they say Hoover for a vacuum cleaner.

Polyimide tape is the generic material. A good polyimide tape with a silicone adhesive does the same job in most masking and electronics applications: high heat resistance, clean removal and a thin, stable film.

Some specifications call for genuine Kapton by name, so check your drawing. If it just says polyimide, you have more options. Hadleigh stocks both, including its own H143 polyimide tape, so you can match the spec or save on cost.
