Start with the insulation class on the motor nameplate. Your tape should match or beat it. Class F and Class H are common in industrial motors.
Glass cloth is used because it's tough, handles heat and doesn't shrink or stretch as the motor cycles through temperatures. It's used for binding coils, insulating leads and holding slot liners.
Hadleigh stocks Class B, F and H glass cloth tapes from 3M, Scapa and its own range, with widths slit to suit your rewind work.
