The class is an insulation temperature rating. Class B is rated to 130C, Class F to 155C and Class H to 180C.
The rating needs to match the insulation class of the motor, transformer or equipment you're working on. Using a lower class than the equipment is rated for means the tape becomes the weak point.
Glass cloth tapes are strong, don't stretch much and resist heat well. Hadleigh stocks all three classes, including its own H160 and H161, Scapa 1504H and 3M 27, 79 and 69.
