Supporting Apprentice Engineers
At Gibbons Engineering Group, we recognise that the future of the engineering industry depends on the next generation of skilled professionals. That’s why we’re proud to support apprentice engineers by offering hands-on, real-world experience across our business.
This week, we had the pleasure of welcoming Anglian Water apprentice Alex Porter, who joined us as part of his Mechanical & Electrical apprenticeship programme. During his time with us, Alex gained valuable insight into several key areas of our operations, helping to build both his technical knowledge and practical skills.
Alex spent time in our rewinds workshop, where he was able to see first-hand the process of inspecting, repairing, and rewinding electric motors. He also worked in our contracts workshop, assisting with the build of control panels and learning about the importance of quality, safety, and precision in electrical assembly.
To round off the experience, Alex joined one of our engineers on-site, gaining exposure to real working environments and seeing how our services are delivered directly to customers. This combination of workshop and site-based experience is key to developing well-rounded engineers.
At Gibbons, we believe that opportunities like this are essential for apprentices. They provide a bridge between learning from books and the realities of the workplace, helping individuals gain confidence and a deeper understanding of the industry.
We’re committed to continuing our support for apprenticeship programmes and working closely with organisations like Anglian Water to help nurture future engineering talent.
We’d like to thank Alex for his enthusiasm and hard work throughout the week, and we wish him every success in his future career.
