Worcester Presses Expands Servo Press Range with Intelligent, Energy-Efficient Technology

Worcester Presses is highlighting its latest range of intelligent servo presses, designed to deliver high levels of efficiency, precision and flexibility across a wide range of metal forming applications.

The range includes C-frame, straight-side single-crank and straight-side double-crank servo presses, with models offering capacities from 110 to 600 tonnes. The portfolio includes the OCP-i, ST1-i and GTX-i series, providing manufacturers with options to suit different production requirements.

A key feature of the technology is the ability to control the press motion according to the specific forming process. Available motion modes include crank, coining, fine blanking, drawing, forging, pulse and pendulum modes. This enables manufacturers to optimise forming conditions for different materials and applications while maintaining productivity and part quality.

The servo system can vary motor speed during the forming cycle, allowing the press to operate at higher speed through non-forming sections and at a controlled lower speed during forming. According to the manufacturer, this approach can combine improved processing quality with increased productivity.

The range also incorporates features designed to support energy efficiency. The servo press consumes energy when the press is activated, while the motor remains stationary during standby. An active power module also provides energy regeneration feedback, allowing recovered energy to be returned to the power system.

For manufacturers working with demanding materials, the servo motion profiles are designed to support a variety of forming processes. Pulse modes use repeated descending and rising movements to help release material stress and progressively increase forming depth, while the forging mode is intended for high-tension material forming and can support improved formability, material stability and part accuracy.

The range extends from the 110-tonne models through to the 600-tonne GTX-600i, with the GTX series offering capacities of 160, 200, 250, 300, 400, 500 and 600 tonnes. The largest models feature a 350mm stroke length and operating speeds of up to 30 strokes per minute.

With intelligent servo control, multiple forming modes and a focus on energy management, the latest press range provides manufacturers with a flexible solution for high-precision metal forming while supporting efficient production.
