Lighting Column Inspection Using New Multigauges
Lighting columns are susceptible to corrosion at the base, due to splashes and ground water, and the collar (swage joint) often due to condensation built up inside the column. Regular inspection of columns is recommended to ensure they are maintained in good condition and are structurally safe to prevent the column from collapsing and causing possible injury Dorchester based, Tritex NDT have developed a new range of triple echo ultrasonic metal thickness gauges ideally suited for the inspection of corrosion on lighting columns. The new Tritex Multigauges have been designed for robustness, simplicity of use and most importantly, accuracy. Metal thickness measurements can be easily taken through paint and other protective coatings such as bitumen, to check for corrosion at various heights on lighting columns. The Multigauge 5500 has been designed to be worn on the waist with the special belt clip provided. This makes inspection of columns easier, especially when operating in a cherry picker. The gauge can measure on all types of metal with no zeroing or set-up at switch on. The gauge has Intelligent Probe Recognition (IPR) and Automatic Measurement Verification System (AMVS) to guarantee accurate, reliable and repeatable measurements, even on the most heavily corroded metal. In addition, all probes are protected by a membrane to prevent costly damage to the probe when measuring rough surfaces.
