Ceramic bearings are normally supplied with rings and balls made from zirconium dioxide (ZrO2) or silicon nitride (Si3N4). Both types are available as full complement (no cage) or with a cage made from PEEK or PTFE. These are non magnetic, non-conductive and highly corrosion resistant to most chemicals although ZrO2 is not recommended for prolonged contact with water or water vapour. They can also withstand high temperatures. ZrO2 ceramic full complement open bearings can be used up to 400°C while the Si3N4 version can cope with temperatures of up to 800°C.
