So what sort of SEO service do I provide?

I also always reply promptly to emails and phone calls and am always willing to go that extra mile. However, I don’t provide some of the services that a big agency provides, but having said that, I am a whole lot cheaper and offer a better, low-risk choice to the majority of SMEs.” But before I can explain why this is the case I have to go over all the different types of SEO services · Technical SEO · Copywriting · Link Building · Research and Reporting Technical SEO comes in various forms, the basic area covers the need to make a website run faster, while also encompassing really specialist services like constructing special code to make a page run faster and be more interactive. Whilst I provide details of any issues that are slowing down a site, I leave it to the web designer to fix these issues. But, and this has be borne in mind, is that it the fact that it is a WordPress site means that sometimes there is very little that can be done, the underlying Theme being the cause of the problems. And when it comes to writing any special code, that is one of the areas that I definitely do not cover. Copywriting There has been a lot of chatter on this subject recently, with AI writing programmes being very much in the news. There is no doubt that the copy they produce can be quite stunning, but is it really any good, and will it stand out in an increasingly noisy web. I doubt this myself and only use these AI programs as a starting point, preferring to do my own research to supplement and produce the copy required, using emotion and, where possible, examples of expertise and experience (this being something the AI bots will have trouble in recreating). When text is used for articles that are destined to be used as Guest Posts (as a part of a linking programme), it is not so important to produce highly optimised copy, as they are just used as ‘vehicles’ for the links needed in the battle to produce the level of Trust that Google demands. However, where the words are being used on a site or in a Guest Post on a high-traffic domain, the pages need to be highly optimised to catch Google’s eye and get the much-needed listings in their own right. At SOM, we provide all levels of optimised copy using special tools to ensure that the words used are just right, not stuffed with keywords, but designed to catch Google’s and the human readers’ eye alike. Link Building This is a highly interesting and complicated topic as there are so many different ways of building links. The best way is undoubtedly where a really powerful (high Domain and Trust Flow rating) relevant website is found, and the process of ‘Outreach’ is put in operation. Here the owner is contacted and convinced to place an article on their site, this containing that all important link using just the right Anchor Text (this being what you click on and what gives Google an idea about the page is about). The trouble is the ‘convincing’ bit (it is pretty easy to work out what sites are best), but the owner / web master is, like all of us, very busy and bombarded with emails on this very same subject. Therefore getting a response is very much hit and miss. This is a huge waste of my customer’s funds, in my view, so we simply don’t do it. Big Agencies tend to have invested a lot of time and money in establishing a connection with a whole range of sites so they can place articles with relative ease. However, they charge a lot for these posts. Great if you can afford them, but if not there are luckily other ways. Note: SOM is setting up an Outreach team, but this will be concentrating on links for local businesses in Hereford and Worcestershire and will take some time to get good results. You can of course go to the other extreme and create links in a fully automatic method. The trouble with these links is that Google can spot them a mile off. That does not mean they are useless, but their role is very much a supporting one. They are simply not good enough to impress Google in any real way. The middle ground is the one that many SEO’s like me inhabit. Here we create links using Guest Posts, placing relevant articles on relevant high-power sites. Getting the sites to accept the article is no problem as you pay them for the ‘space’. Overall, this makes them considerably more cost-effective than true outreach. That is not to say that these are cheap, especially if the site gets a lot of traffic, the cost of just placing the article being as much as £900, although thankfully cheaper ones are also available. There are other forms of interesting links, these provide links that are less powerful than Guest Posts but are more useful than the automatic links mentioned above. They can be produced in a semi automatic manner, but when being done properly even these ‘automatic’ links require a good deal of work in writing the copy and in ensuring you don’t fall foul of Google’s rules. Then there are Forum links. Again a big agency could well have their own Forum linking team. Smaller (cheaper) agencies will more than likely buy in these services using their expertise to order the right sort of links. At SOM we use all of these lower levels of link creation, leaving the full Outreach service to the bigger more expensive agencies. We do this in the full knowledge that this system works in all but the highest levels of competition. Research and Reporting When dealing with an existing site it is imperative that the required level of research is carried out so that all the things wrong with the site are understood, as only then can you fix them. At SOM we provide a detailed SEO Audit report, the like of which our customers will have never seen before… On the other hand, sometimes we get involved before a site is built and here we can really help as we can assist in selecting what pages the site should contain (and what keyword search terms it is their ‘job’ to obtain ranking on Google for). We can therefore provide all the research required and can analyse the competition to find out why their sites are doing so well, and by default all the rankings and traffic that our customer is ‘missing out on’… Monthly Reports And when it comes to reporting, our detailed monthly reports give our customers a total picture of what is going on SEO wise, whilst also providing information as to what areas require attention to get even better rankings. So there we have it, a total disclosure of what we do and how we do it. But Oh, I forgot one final and very important thing, and that is we also blow away the smoke and remove all the mirrors that some use to disguise what SEO is really about, explaining the whole process in a way that anyone can understand.
