Of Leaf Blowers and SEO Packages

I don’t think that there is a more useless bit of garden kit than the leaf blower. Most of them don’t have enough puff to encourage a wet leaf to let go of its bond with the earth, and even if it does, where do you blow the leaves where the wind won’t just blow them back again? Use a Rake ! And if you want something to help get all the leaves into a stack, could I perhaps suggest a rake? They are far cheaper, don’t have any moving parts and never run out of power. Now, I may be doing a disservice to leaf blowers, so don’t be too hard on me if they are one of your cherished garden toys (there I go again), but really the whole reason to mention them was so that I could compare them with some of the SEO Packages that I have seen offered to the unwary. Remember to Look Under The Hood.. They look good some of these packages, until you look under the hood with a discerning and experienced eye. I have for example, seen packages where the SEO company says something like “We will re-write 10 Meta Titles and Descriptions every month”, or “We guarantee first page rankings for 10 keywords”. Both sound good until you understand that re-writing the Titles and Descriptions without knowing what keyphrase that pages wants to be ranked for AND ensuring that the contents of the page and the internal links are aligned with to this goal, is pretty useless. Why do I say that? Well re-writing the Title is of no use unless you know what keyphrase that page wants to be ranked for, which means you have to have carried out some detailed keyword research in the first place, something that many of these companies never mention. And when it comes to the Meta Description, this has little power SEO wise, it’s real job being to get someone to click on the link in Google’s listings. It is in essence an ‘Elevator Pitch’. There is a small amount of SEO power to gain from using it, and this is gained simply by being there, not being duplicated and being aligned to the purpose of the page. First Page Guarantees Are Rubbish! As for the ‘first page guarantees’, well, no true SEO would guarantee such a thing, although it is of course possible to get such a rank for a term no one else is interested in (because no one uses it). I have seen this countless times, the ranking reports provided to the customer proudly trumpeting about the Number One positions on Google for such terms as ‘Aardvark clothing specialists’ (OK so I am joking, but in reality the ones they use are little better and used just about as much, which is not at all). Talk to an SEO Expert Before Parting With Your Money So when it comes to buying a gadget to use in your garden, do really think hard about whether a leaf blower is a good investment, and when it comes to SEO, before you buy, talk to a real expert, one that knows the SEO ropes and is not going to try to rip you off….
