New Femtosecond Laser

Laser Micromachining Limited (LML) is a specialist supplier of laser micromanufacturing services. The company uses a broad selection of laser tools dedicated to achieving high-quality, micro-precision results in all materials. The tools within LML’s facility contain lasers which range from IR to UV wavelengths, covering nanosecond, picosecond and femtosecond pulse regimes. This allows LML to choose the optimum laser for any machining job and allows LML to respond quickly and efficiently to all customer needs.

Femtosecond Laser

LML is continually enhancing the range and level of the machining services which we offer our customers. As part of this facility improvement, LML has recently invested in a new femtosecond laser which is now fully operational in one of LML machining tools. This laser – the Jasper 30 from Fluence (Poland) – provides femtosecond pulses as short as ~230fs duration in the IR, with the ability to change the pulse duration up to a few picosecond level. Additionally, the laser allows ‘Burst-mode’ operation where rapid delivery of pulses in defined bursts can improve both the speed and quality of machining in many materials.

The Jasper laser has already allowed the precision machining of metals, polymers, glass and ceramics and is able to run reliably in 24/7 operation.

Partial funding for the Jasper 30 laser was provided by Welsh Government.
