Team Kingly enjoyed exclusively made Paella by CEO’s Mother Maria

Team Kingly got to enjoy the most wonderful Spanish Paella the other day. It was cooked by Robert Ian Armour's mother Maria with the help of his father Ian. The dish was made just outside of our zero-waste sock knitting facility in Sofia, Bulgaria. Everyone on the team hoped to help with the preparation - from cleaning the traditional pan for cooking and bringing hot water to getting the temperature right and adding rice and oil to the Paella. The Garment team had created a customized apron, especially for the cook with a personal message from our CEO. It was a wonderful way to thank Maria for her kind efforts.

Our Logistic Manager Hristo, who loves to cook, was particularly active in helping and was taking notes on the recipe. "My mother is a maestra and she keeps the secret formula", said Rob. The dish consisted of peppers, green beans, lots of rice, chicken, sunflower oil, seasoning, homemade vegetable broth, sausages, pork, and shrimp. A special batch was created especially for our staff members whose diet restricts the consumption of pork. The food that was prepared was enough to feed twice the amount of employees in the company.

Paella is a rice dish originally from the Valencian community. It is regarded as one of the community's identifying symbols. The dish is named after the wide shallow traditional pan used to cook the Paella on an open fire. As a dish, it may have ancient roots, but in its modern form, it is traced back to the mid-19th century, in the rural area around the Albufera lagoon adjacent to the city of Valencia, on the Mediterranean coast of Spain. It is considered that the Valencian recipe is the original one.
