Hodge Clemco have installed an acoustic blast room at Abbey Attachments. They were looking for a solution to the amount of time they were spending sanding


down their forklift truck attachments to make their business more efficient. Abbey Attachments have been acknowledged as the leading independent supplier of


new and reconditioned forklift truck attachments. They pride themselves on the quality of their reconditioned work. Hodge Clemco have worked with them over the last
few months to install the blast room at their facilities in Bury.

 

 Paul Kelly, Service Director at Abbey Attachments said they found the Hodge Clemco website very informative, which led him to phone and speak with Liam Davis our

Sales and Marketing Manager. He then organised for a visit to Hodge Clemco to see our demo room and to grasp how a blast room could work for them and employees who carry out the work.

They were happy to work with Hodge Clemco as they saw the benefits of working with a strong brand and the industry leader in abrasive blasting. As they are

a company that have strong values around quality assurance, working with a company with the same kind of values was important to them.

 

 

The purchase of the blast room was important to the company for two reasons. Firstly, they were concerned for the health and welfare of their employees. Before having the blast room installed their employees could spend up to 6 hours a day sanding and grinding down paint and corrosion by hand, in a dirty and dusty environment. The blast room has meant that the same employees are now able to achieve better results in just 20 minutes with the blast room.

 

Whilst avoiding inhalation of the dust through the use of Hodge Clemco’s PPE, which they have commented that even given the heat of summer has still been cool and comfortable to wear.

Secondly, the efficiency of working in this manner has led to better production times for the company and allowed them to be more energy efficient in both terms of time management and their energy use. Sustainability and the circular economy are key to both companies values.

 

 

The blast room took two weeks to install and commission. With Hodge Clemco’s installation team onsite to deal with any issues or queries regarding the
build. The blast room is acoustic, so dampens the noise in the rest of the factory when workers are blasting. The blast room is fitted with an external dust and recovery system.
This will then be followed up with on site training from Hodge Clemco to ensure they have a solid understanding of the health and safety aspect, but also to make sure
they are blasting as efficiently as possible.
