Its construction consists of a helically wound resistance spiral, precisely stretched and strung through specifically designed refractory ceramic bricks. The build up of the ceramic brick provides a flexible heating mat, which when placed into a rolled outer metal casing and 4mm thick ceramic fibre insulation, provides an efficient high temperature, high watts density band heater. Ceramic Knuckle Heaters are capable of reaching temperatures up to 650°C and with its unique flexible design, makes the Knuckle Heater a first choice with most European machinery manufacturers. When used on Injection Moulding Machine barrels, Knuckle Heaters can be provided with a metal insulation jacket, with 12.5mm ceramic fibre insulation for energy savings of up to 25%, resulting in reduced power consumption, and cooler working conditions. Used on Extruder barrels, Knuckle Heaters can be provided with a mesh style outer metal casing, leaving air gaps between the ceramic bricks to allow for air cooling, enabling critical extrusion temperatures to be maintained. Complete units can be manufactured for extrusion machines with outer cowls, inlet and outlet air boxes together with high output blowers/fans.
