‘EXOTIC’ RUBBERS EAS regularly handles all types of ‘exotic’ rubber materials. While these are generally perceived to also be high cost – in many cases that is not the case! Many of these compounds have a high value simply because they are often made in small batches. We are able to have compounds mixed in batches from just 1kg upwards – and at quite reasonable prices. FKM, HNBR AND FFKM As an example of one of the more commonly used – high value rubber compounds, Hydrogenated Nitrile Butadiene Rubber – or HNBR often falls within that category. Typically parts produced in this compound are approximately 60% higher in value than the same parts in a good quality Fluoroelastomer (FKM). HNBR is particularly good in contact with oils and chemicals – especially in continuous temperatures – up to 150°C – far surpassing standard Nitrile (NBR). Going up the scale, FFKM – today’s ‘super polymer’ can reach prices of up to £18500.00 per KG – but for extreme applications in Aerospace for instance, products made from these highest grade polymers are actually (almost) ‘worth their weight in gold’ ! – about half the cost of Gold in some cases! These are just two examples – we come across many different polymer grades each day and can normally organise batches of material to match all requirements (within RoHS legislation).
