Curious George – Case Study

In 2009 Doncaster Plastics was approached by a customer with the idea of making touch screen technology for children and putting them in children’s play areas that you would generally find in hospitals, on ships, etc. curious george The customer had previously had the screen surrounds made from wood which he thought did not give the best possible finish to his product. We worked with the customer and found a material that would be well suited for the product. Playtec is a plastic material which is available in several bright and attractive colours. It is also available with multi – coloured layers running through it. The material has non-toxic properties so it won’t harm the children. Using Playtec has several advantages over using wood, it wont chip or splinter, it dose not need re-painting or maintenance of any kind and has a longer shelf life. After we had found the right material we were able to use the designs that the customer already had for production. We were able to use the CNC machine to cut all the required parts for assembly which saved a lot of time. We also used the machine to do the engraving which was needed on the surrounds. As you can see from the images taken on board a well known Cruise Liner the children were happy with our products and so were we.
