NRTL: Exporting to North America

NRTL Certification To ensure your product is accepted by US Customs and Border Protection, it is important that you familiarise yourself with the requirements for product approval in North America. Electrical and electronic equipment used in the workplace is required to be independently inspected or tested by a Nationally Recognised Testing Laboratory (NRTL). The requirement for safety and health in the workplace is enforced by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Equipment not bearing a recognised NRTL approval mark or having NRTL certification is identified and prevented from entering North America. NRTL Process We work with our compliance partner QPS Evaluation Services Inc. in Canada to provide the relevant NRTL Certification – all testing is performed by Cranage in the United Kingdom. QPS is accredited by OSHA and the International Accreditation Service (IAS) - Cranage has been qualified by QPS as an Authorised Testing Facility. • Product is tested by Cranage and a report is sent to QPS • QPS perform a technical review and file for NRTL Certification • A Factory Inspection (quarterly) is required to maintain the validity of NRTL Certification • NRTL Certificate is issued on successful completion of 1st Factory Inspection • An annual licence fee is charged by QPS to permit the use of their Approval Mark Why use Cranage Our role as an Authorised Testing Facility for QPS is to bring you a privately owned ‘caring’ alternative to the market dominant ‘corporate culture’ which has a significant impact on ability to solve problems, adapt to change and perform effectively.
