Kappalert KAP-M3 Provides Independent Leak Protection for Three Water Systems

Colter Products Ltd has introduced the new Kappalert KAP-M3, a multi-zone water monitoring and automatic shut-off system designed to protect properties against leaks and abnormal water use.

While many leak protection systems control a single water supply, the KAP-M3 can monitor up to three separate water systems. Each supply can be monitored and shut off independently, providing greater flexibility for buildings with multiple water feeds, separate areas or different pipe sizes.

Three Independent Water Monitoring Zones

The KAP-M3 features three flow sensor inputs and three motorised valve outputs. This allows each water system to have its own flow sensor and shut-off valve, rather than relying on a single valve to control the whole property.

The flow sensors and motorised valves can all be the same size or supplied in different sizes to suit the installation. Customers can specify their requirements when placing an order, allowing the system to be configured around the individual property or application.

If a problem is detected on one of the monitored water systems, the corresponding motorised valve can automatically close to isolate that supply and help limit the amount of water escaping.

Flexible Controller and Valve Installation

The KAP-M3 has been designed to simplify installation and everyday use. Its motorised valves can be positioned away from the main controller, making it possible to install them close to the relevant pipework while placing the controller somewhere more accessible.

The controller is designed to fit into a standard double pattress. This provides a neat, familiar installation and allows the controls to be positioned conveniently for the property owner, resident or facilities team.

Automatic Protection Against Excessive Water Flow

One of the conditions monitored by the KAP-M3 is excess flow. A maximum permitted flow rate can be set for each monitored water system.

If the flow rate rises above the selected setpoint, the system will identify the abnormal usage and shut off the relevant water supply. This can help reduce the potential damage caused by incidents such as burst pipes, damaged fittings or other sudden high-flow leaks.

Excess Time Monitoring

The KAP-M3 can also monitor how long water continues to flow. If water is used continuously beyond a predetermined period, the appropriate valve will automatically close.

This excess-time function provides an additional level of protection against situations where water may have been left running or where a slower leak continues for longer than expected without exceeding the maximum flow-rate setting.

By monitoring both the volume and duration of water use, the KAP-M3 can respond to different types of abnormal activity.

Automatic Shut-Off After 24 Hours of Non-Use

The system includes a 24-hour non-use function. If no water passes through a monitored supply for 24 hours, the KAP-M3 will automatically shut off the corresponding valve.

This feature can be particularly useful when a property or part of a building is unoccupied. Turning off an unused supply helps reduce the risk of a leak developing unnoticed while nobody is present to respond.

Simple Manual Valve Control

During normal operation, the reset button provides straightforward manual control over all three valves.

Pressing the reset button closes all of the motorised valves. Pressing it again reopens them. This allows the water supplies to be quickly isolated when required without having to access each individual valve.

Following an alarm, holding the reset button for approximately one second resets the system so that normal operation can resume once the cause of the alarm has been investigated and resolved.

Greater Control for Multi-Supply Properties

By combining three flow sensor inputs, three independent motorised valve outputs and automatic monitoring functions within one controller, the Kappalert KAP-M3 provides a practical solution for properties with more complex water supplies.

Its ability to accommodate different valve and sensor sizes means the system can be configured for the specific pipework rather than requiring every monitored supply to be identical.

With automatic protection against excess flow, prolonged water use and extended periods of inactivity, the KAP-M3 helps property owners and facilities teams identify unusual water usage and isolate affected supplies before a leak causes more extensive damage.
