Add My Company
Over the past 12 months, Colter Products Ltd has been focused on the design and manufacture of a new automatic water protection valve for Onguard, created to help property owners and facilities teams monitor and protect buildings against water leaks in line with the latest guidance around “escape of water” incidents.
The first look at the new promotional video shows exactly what the product has been built for: straightforward installation, simple set-up and easy commissioning, without compromising on the level of protection.
With WRAS approval in place and the device ready to go to market, the new solution is positioned to support residential, commercial and managed properties where water damage risk needs to be reduced quickly, reliably and with minimal disruption.
Onguard Hydro Leak Protection: HLP-4
Water leaks are rarely convenient, and in multi-occupancy buildings such as residential flats, a single incident can impact multiple units, create costly repairs and lead to significant disruption for residents and building managers. HLP-4 has been developed to reduce that risk by automatically responding to abnormal usage patterns, while also enabling active leak detection and alerts.
Key protection features designed for real-world use
HLP-4 combines intelligent shut-off functions with practical monitoring options, giving building owners and managers multiple layers of defence:
-
Excess Flow Rate Protection
The system allows a set excess flow rate to be configured. If the flow rate rises above the chosen setpoint, the water supply is automatically turned off. This is designed to catch burst pipes, failed fittings or unexpected high-flow events quickly. -
Timeout Shut-Off
The valve can shut off the water after a predetermined period of continuous use. This is particularly useful for reducing risk from taps, showers or appliances that may be left running. -
24-Hour Non-Use Shut-Off
If the water isn’t used for 24 hours, the system can automatically turn off the supply. This feature is ideal for unoccupied properties, holiday lets, vacant flats, plant rooms and low-usage areas where leaks can otherwise go unnoticed. -
Battery Backup
Added resilience is built in through battery backup, helping maintain protection and continuity in the event of a power interruption. -
Leak Detection via Kappalert Pads (Optional Wetpads)
Optional wetpads can be placed around the property in typical risk areas to detect leaks. If a wetpad is triggered, the system can shut the water off to minimise damage. -
Alerts and Notifications
The system supports SMS alerts, helping ensure the right people are notified quickly when an incident occurs or when a shut-off event is triggered. -
BMS Connectivity Available
For sites with building-wide management requirements, connection to BMS is available, supporting better visibility and integration within broader facilities and compliance workflows.
Designed for easier commissioning
As highlighted in the new promotional video, ease of use and commissioning has been a core focus throughout development. That matters because leak protection is most effective when it is installed correctly, configured properly and simple enough to be adopted across multiple properties without introducing complexity for installers or facilities teams.
UK engineering with a clear purpose
This project underlines Colter Products Ltd’s capability to take a product from concept through design and manufacturing, delivering a market-ready solution aimed at a growing and increasingly regulated problem. As water damage prevention becomes more important for landlords, managing agents and facilities teams, solutions like HLP-4 provide a practical route to reducing risk, disruption and long-term costs.
Onguard Hydro Leak Protection HLP-4 is now WRAS approved, ready for market, and built to help property stakeholders take proactive control of water leak risk.
