THE CLIENT A (very) well known wood stain, paint and preservative manufacturer whose products do “exactly what they say on the tin.” THE CHALLENGE Our client was relocating from a factory in the south of England to the outskirts of Sheffield. Compressed air is an essential part of business operations, and Algar Air was contracted to supply and install the compressed air system for the entire factory, extend the water supply and install a solvent weld cooling system. OUR RESPONSE This was a major project involving installation of a large pipe network, much of it at height. We scoped the job as requiring two engineers on site for five weeks. Of course, things change on any project, and that’s particularly the case with a site relocation where pipework layouts and the number of ‘drops’ (that is, the number of individual workstation feed points) can change as plans adapt and evolve. We remained extremely flexible with the customer throughout the project, repositioning installed pipework as they requested. Things became even more challenging as Covid measures bit. At various points in the process we had engineers required to isolate, and we would need to replace them with other members of the engineering team to keep progress on track. We’re happy to say that, despite the challenges, we met the deadline. The client now has a fully functioning factory, with workstations fed by two 75KW BOGE air compressors.
