Microsoft Intune is Microsoft’s cloud service for managing and securing laptops, desktops, phones and tablets. It lets your IT team, or your managed service provider, set security policies, deploy apps and updates, and protect company data on any device, without needing servers in the office.

What does Microsoft Intune do?
Device management: enrol Windows, macOS, iOS/iPadOS and Android devices and apply consistent settings such as encryption, PIN or password rules and firewall configuration.
App management: install and update Microsoft 365 apps and business software remotely, and protect company data inside apps on personal phones without taking control of the whole device.
Update control: manage Windows updates and feature upgrades, such as the move to Windows 11, across every device.
Compliance and Conditional Access: working with Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD), Intune can block access to email and files from devices that are not encrypted, patched or protected.
Zero-touch setup: with Windows Autopilot, a new laptop can be sent straight to a staff member and set itself up with your apps and security policies when they sign in.
Remote actions: lock, wipe or retire a lost, stolen or leaver’s device from the admin centre.
Which licences include Intune?
Intune Plan 1 is included in Microsoft 365 Business Premium (£16.90 per user per month, excluding VAT, on an annual commitment), Microsoft 365 E3 and E5, and Enterprise Mobility + Security (EMS) E3 and E5. It can also be bought on its own. Business Premium’s price did not change in Microsoft’s July 2026 UK price rise, while Business Basic and Business Standard went up.
What changed in 2026?
From July 2026, Microsoft began adding more advanced Intune capabilities to its enterprise plans at no extra cost:
Microsoft 365 E3 and EMS E3: now include Intune Plan 2, Remote Help and Advanced Analytics.
Microsoft 365 E5: now includes the full Intune Suite, adding Endpoint Privilege Management, Enterprise Application Management and Microsoft Cloud PKI.
Microsoft 365 Business Premium customers are not affected by this change. If you are on Business Premium and need features such as Remote Help, they are still available as add-ons. We can review which option is most cost-effective for you.
Is Intune suitable for small businesses?
Yes. Most of the small businesses and charities we support already have Intune through Microsoft 365 Business Premium but have never switched it on. Setting it up properly is one of the most effective ways to meet Cyber Essentials device requirements and to protect data when staff work from home.
How ABCOM helps
We plan, configure and run Intune as part of our managed IT services: enrolling devices, building security and compliance policies, setting up Autopilot and managing updates. Talk to our Burgess Hill team about getting more from the Microsoft 365 licences you already pay for.
