Lord Mayors Show, London
Dufaylite Panels, widely used for their combination of panel stiffness with low weight, have been used in the renowned spectacle that is the Lord Mayors Show in London.
ATD, prototype design consultants of Tonbridge, chose a Dufaylite panel construction comprising faces of sanded hardboard and a lightweight core of Dufaylite structural honeycomb.
The concept was for a series of lightweight banners, displaying the varied aspects of Transport for London. Each banner, shaped to the distinctive circle and bar logo of the London Underground, was mounted on a pole to be carried in the procession.
Andy Thompson of ATD commented : “Dufaylite provided us with the basic panel, which we cut to shape, finishing the edges in iron-on lipping. This panel construction provided us with a firm base for applying a vinyl finish and gave an impression of depth which we couldnt have achieved in solid materials without making the banners a burden to carry.”
