Quality Assurance of Modified Atmosphere Packaging
As one of the leading international specialists in modified atmosphere packaging for many applications, including food and beverages, Witt-Gasetechnik will be exhibiting at FachPack 2018 on Stand 545 in Hall 1. Their new and improved solutions for the quality control of packaging are of particular interest. The new gas analyser Oxybeam, designed as a tabletop device, harnesses infrared laser light to detect the oxygen concentration in MAP packaging. The advantage of this technology: The packaging is not damaged during testing. The residual oxygen concentration is accurately displayed on a touchscreen in steps of 0.1%. The Class 1 laser does not require the operator to wear eye protection and only needs a small viewing area into the packaging interior. The measurable headspace of the packaging should be in the region of 16 to 80 mm. The O2 analyser is equipped with a USB/Ethernet interface and can be operated within a gas temperature range from 5 to 40°C. Repetitive measurements over a pre-determined time period are also possible using the Oxybeam non-destructive detection test. The mobile O2/CO2 gas analyser Oxybaby® is now even more user-friendly: Measurement results can now be stored in CSV format on a micro SD card. This greatly simplifies data exporting, which previously required a USB interface and additional software. The Oxybaby® is already in use all over the world by thousands of operators, making it one of the most successful test devices for modified atmosphere packaging. The analyser, which can be operated with one hand, delivers precise results in just 6 seconds, and needs only 2 ml of headspace gas to measure. This is extremely important for small packages with little headspace. Its high reliability, easy operation and handling make the Oxybaby® the first choice for many quality inspectors. The Leak-Master® Easy package leak detector, which functions using a water-based bubble leak test, is now available in two additional, more compact test chamber sizes. The lower capacity of the 0.5 and 1.5 litre chambers simplifies cleaning and water changes, whilst still offering the full functionality of the popular leak detector. So the series now includes seven models that can detect even the smallest leaks, for example in pharmaceutical products or food packaging with or without a modified atmosphere.
