WITT GAS TECHNIQUES RETURNS TO FOODEX MEATEX 2008 IN BIRMINGHAM Witt Gas Techniques Ltd, the Warrington, Cheshire based gas safety, control, mixing and analysis equipment supplier will be returning to Foodex Meatex 2008, NEC, Birmingham, 6th – 9th April 2008 for the second time as an exhibiter on stand no. V311 showing an extensive a range of new and existing gas mixers and analysis equipment used in food packaging.

New equipment being demonstrated includes MAPY 4.0 a brand new, ergonomically designed, portable, multifunction O2/CO2 gas analyser with ethernet capability for use on Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) lines and in laboratories. It features an easy to read a colour touchscreen and has the option of an integrated printer and/or barcode scanner.

‘PACK-VAC’ a low cost, portable leak detection system able to detect leaks in individual packages without the need for trace gases will be shown. It uses only water and compressed air to detect leaks and is designed for use with most flexible and rigid food packaging, Available with 6 different size chambers ranging from height 203mm x width 280mm x depth 203mm to height 508mm x width 813mm x depth 660mm, it can also be supplied with a special attachment to test vacuum packs for leaks.

‘Leakmaster’, a non-destructive micro-leak detection system will be demonstrated, finding leaks in individual flexible and rigid food packaging. Based on CO2 detection technology it produces considerable cost savings over using water as a leak tester.

Visitors will be able to use ‘OXYBABY® V the latest hand held gas measuring system for food packaging analysis on the packaging line, in a ‘hands on’ demonstration to see exactly how sensitive it is. It can measure the O2 and the CO2 content of the smallest food packages, such as salami, cheese slices as well as other food packaging, including poultry and salads. Running on a re-chargeable battery, OXYBABY® V measures the O2 and CO2 concentration using a minimum gas sample of only 4ml. Using an integrated processor, it stores the product/line number information, value, date and time of the last 100 measurements.

The data can be read via an interface or downloaded onto a computer or printer using WITT-Logger software, a Windows based programme with filter functions for information editing such as procedure changes and part numbers for individual customers.
