The Basics of The Work at Height Regulations UK: What You Need to Know
The Work at Height Regulations 2005 apply wherever there is a risk that somebody could fall far enough to cause injury, not just on large construction sites.

TopTower explains that employers and those controlling work at height must make sure tasks are properly planned, supervised and carried out by competent people using suitable equipment. Risk assessments should consider the working height, duration, frequency of access, number of workers, tools and materials, and the surrounding environment.

The regulations follow a hierarchy of control: avoid working at height where possible, prevent falls where the work cannot be avoided, and minimise the consequences of a fall where a residual risk remains.

Access equipment must also be inspected and maintained so that ladders, scaffold towers, platforms and associated safety equipment remain suitable for use.
