Trust Thrilled with Bespoke Bird Hides

Earlier this year Three Shires Ltd was asked by Lancashire Wildlife Trust to design and build some extra special Bird Hides for their new Brockholes Nature Reserve, located just off Junction 31 of the M6; Three Shires has been a corporate supporter of The Trust for several years and was extremely pleased to be involved. The brief for the hides was relatively straight forward ‘We want the first of its kind and the best’ and the Three Shires team set about delivering just that. The Trust required four bird hides in total which were to be strategically positioned around the 106 hectare nature reserve. Three Shires knew that the bird hide design would need to cater for everyone, including serious birders, educational group tours, casual visitors and family groups; taking extra care to make suitable provision for disabled visitors and children – from the outset Three Shires was committed to addressing the failings of traditional hides and delivering an excellent viewing experience for all. The bird hide structures benefited from modern Jackleg steel frames, insulated and fire retardant materials, user friendly sash style glazed viewing windows, tinted glass to prevent bird disturbance and extensive hide furniture to ensure comfortable viewing. Three Shires were also asked to install the bird hides in their designated locations; in places this involved transporting the 3.6 metre wide units down two metre wide access tracks, cutting back trees and vegetation, transporting across very wet and soft grassland and the use of 35 tonne cranes. Despite the access constraints the four bird hides were installed without complication and in time for the grand opening which took place on Easter Sunday. The Wildlife Trust was thrilled with the installation, design and superior build quality of the bird hides; not only were they installed on time, the works were also delivered £7,000 under budget!!
