Three Counties Steel Buildings design and install a new vocational workshop at a prominant College in London Last year the bricklayers studying at the college were heading for an unachievable graduation due to the lack of suitable space for their construction project work. Without a designated learning zone all their hard work would not be enough to reach graduation. The College Facilities Manager said: ‘We were looking for an affordable steel building quickly, from a company that we didn’t have to continually monitor and who we knew would provide the right quality of product and service.’ Fortunately we found Three Counties Steel Buildings Ltdand their rapid response time was excellent from day one. We therefore chose to hand the entire project over to them and they impressed us greatly with the completed facility.’ After much consultation between both parties Three Counties Steel Building’s Design Manager created a bespoke building of mono-pitch roof design. The steel building footprint was of an irregular triangular plan with uneven walls and needed to be totally self supporting. The building also incorporated a sophisticated integral gutter system. Once manufactured, Three Counties Steel Buildings undertook the installation process which also required craneage of the steel building into the tight site confines. The whole installation was completed on time and to budget enabling the students to complete their studies in the much improved environment. A Director of Three Counties Steel Buildings, said: ‘We were incredibly happy to assist in a cause so necessary to the college, its students and the wider economy. This is now a superb facility for the young aspiring bricklayers in the London area to learn a valuable trade.’ ‘Currently the UK is not training sufficient tradespeople and with a number of overseas workers returning home we face several shortages of skilled personnel for the construction sector. The excellent work being undertaken by the college will help to address this. ‘ In 2008 the UK will miss its construction target for new homes by only completing £5.6 Billion, this is even lower than the previous low of £5.7 Billion in 1992 despite a growing population. Upon completion, on the 11th of November 2008, at the grand opening of the project, Students and Staff were on hand to receive the keys from Three Counties Steel Buildings Contract Manager. ‘It has been an excellent project for us to be associated with, at such a prestigious college, and has demonstrated the capabilities of all of the departments of the Company. The majority of our UK wide installations cover the Industrial Sector, Educational, Leisure and Training facilities together with penal reform installations and waste recycling.' This was particularly important on this project due to the complex design nature and since road access was limited, requiring closure for the crane lifting programme. Naturally the whole process was underpinned by a rigorous Health and Safety programme with detailed Method Statements and Risk Assessments' said the Three Counties Steel Buildings Contract Manager. As a footnote Three Counties Steel Buildings, along with other generous businesses, donated prizes for their Awards for Excellence Evening at the college on the 27th November 2008.
