Spooner Air Turn Debut at ICE Europe 2013
For the first time ever at ICE, Spooner Industries is offering visitors a chance to see a live demonstration of contactless web turning provided by the Spooner Air Turn. The model Air Turn, which can be seen on stand 345 in hall 6, has been designed, engineered and each component 3D printed at Spooner’s manufacturing facility in the UK. The model will allow convertors to see the capabilities of the patented Spooner flotation nozzles but on a very small scale. Since the invention of the Air Turn in 1983 by Spooner engineers, the original design has been continually refined to improve its operation and enable Spooner to remain at the forefront of non-contact air flotation technology. To achieve this, extensive research and development is undertaken in Spooner’s UK test centre from which Spooner also developed their wide range of highly efficient flotation and impingement dryer systems. Along with Air Turns and dryers, Spooner provides coolers, oxidisers and solvent recovery systems. As a result of this continuous development, the Spooner Air Turn is fully automatic with no operator involvement, any changes in the paper operating tension are accommodated within the units' closed loop control system resulting in total contact free operation. For 80 years Spooner has worked in partnership with many of the world’s leading manufacturers, providing unique technology solutions for a vast range of process problems. Offering unrivalled worldwide experience in the drying, curing, cooling and non-contact handling of coated and impregnated web materials, whether the substrate be paper, film, foil, carbon fibre heavy metal strip or textiles.
