Channel cladding brings 1970s home back in style
There’s nothing better than coming home after a long day, stepping into your own little paradise and forgetting about the worries of the day. We love it so much that there’s a new trend for external makeovers as the alternative to moving. Matt from Clough Construction recently bought a 1970s three bedroom bungalow, and transformed it into a modern four bedroom house with different roofing levels and features to turn a few heads. As the house was to be 40% render and 60% cladding, timber was going to be a prominent feature of the new house, so it had to be perfect. Siberian Larch and Western Red Cedar were shortlisted due to their longevity and stability, but Matt settled on Western Red Cedar as he felt it gave the house a warm and inviting appeal. The natural colour variations in Western Red Cedar also provided an extra feature in the new design. For contemporary buildings channel cladding is the clear favourite, and another trend for using a mixture of board widths is being favoured in very modern designs. Channel cladding creates a bold shadow line that showcases the face of each board and adds an extra design element to any contemporary build.
