GREAT SCOTT! GIBB’S ARE BACK!

1:50 scale Volvo FH16 Globetrotter XL (6X2) with 3 axle, refrigerated trailer, customised in the very well known livery of Scottish haulier Gibb’s of Fraserburgh. The models have been produced exclusively for Search Impex by WSI Collectibles as a certificated, Limited Edition (335 pieces). Headed up by James Gibb (son of Jimmy Gibb - owner of the business together with his brother Tommy, until its closure back in 2002), the first truck to go back on the road in 2016 is a Volvo FH4 Globetrotter XL with fridge trailer. Of course, the market would expect nothing less than to find that the new truck and trailer has been customised very much in keeping with Gibb’s traditional and much loved livery – and it has already started turning heads (and cameras!) from the moment it officially hit the road in July. It’s difficult to believe that 14 years have already passed by since, in the spring of 2002, Gibb’s of Fraserburgh announced it was to close its doors. It was a very difficult and sad decision for the family because, although still in the black, margins in the business were poor and the view of the family was that the outlook for the road transport industry was far from rosy. However, that was then and this is now – and the good news is that things are now viewed as having turned a corner. Having been careful never to rule out a return to the transport industry if conditions were right, that day has now come - and Gibb’s are back in business! The Volvo unit is a top end of the range specification and comes complete with microwave oven, refrigerator and flat screen TV - and the one year old fridge trailer has been fully refurbished by Gray Adams bringing it back to an “as new” standard. Gibb’s have already started continental work and the truck - having already completed several round trips to France carrying fresh fish – will be covering some considerable miles each year to earn its keep.
