Compounding is tough on vents. Lines run at high throughput, barrels run full, and compounds carry fillers, additives and volatiles that all need dealing with. The vent is often where the process hits its limit.
Melt rising up the vent means lost material and blocked ports. Backing off the vacuum to stop it means volatiles stay in the compound, leading to porosity, odour and inconsistent quality. Neither is a good outcome for a compounder whose customers expect consistent material.
Screwtech Engineering vent port stuffers are a proven design used by many leading compounding and profiling extrusion companies. The self-wiping twin-screw design conveys rising melt back into the barrel while air, moisture and volatiles escape. Precision tolerances allow full vacuum to be drawn.
For a compounder, that means running at higher fill levels while maintaining product quality, better devolatilisation, improved porosity and less downtime from vent blockage.
The units are built from high quality stainless steel for demanding production environments, with an easy clean two-part vacuum chamber, a separate seal housing and an oil filled gearbox with water cooled jacket for long life at high temperature.
Screwtech also manufactures twin extruder components including screw elements, barrels and liners, and shafts and tips. Various sizes of stuffer are available. Speak to Screwtech Engineering about your compounding line.
