How long does a vent port stuffer last at high temperature?

A vent port stuffer is bolted onto a hot extruder barrel, often for long, continuous runs. Heat soaking up into the drive is what wears gearboxes out, so how a stuffer handles temperature has a big say in how long it lasts.

Screwtech Engineering tackles this with an oil filled gearbox fitted with a water cooled jacket. The cooling jacket draws heat away from the drive, so the gears and bearings run at a sensible temperature even when the barrel underneath is running hot. That is designed for long life expectancy at high temperature.

The working end is just as robust. High quality stainless steel construction stands up to demanding production environments. Across its range, Screwtech uses top quality wear and corrosion resistant steels designed to last as long as, and often longer than, original manufacturer parts.

Actual lifespan depends on the materials you run, how abrasive or corrosive they are, your running hours and how well the unit is maintained. The easy clean two-part vacuum chamber and separate seal housing make keeping on top of maintenance straightforward.

The self-wiping twin-screw design also reduces wear and tear caused by build up, as material does not sit and harden on the flights.

Screwtech supplies vent port stuffers in various sizes for twin-screw and single-screw extruders. Speak to Screwtech Engineering about what to expect from a unit on your line.
