How do I make better use of barrel length and vent port positions?

Barrel length on an extruder is valuable. Every section has a job, whether that is melting, mixing, feeding, venting or building pressure for the die. If a vent position cannot be used reliably, you lose part of that length and your process has to work around it.

Vent ports often go unused, or are used gently, because they flood. A vent sitting over a fully filled section, or just after a high pressure zone, can be tricky to run without melt coming up. So processors avoid it, or keep the vacuum low.

A Screwtech Engineering vent port stuffer helps maximise use of available barrel length and vent port positions. Its self-wiping twin screws keep melt in the barrel, so vents that were previously awkward become usable.

With full vacuum available thanks to precision tolerances, each vent can do proper degassing. That gives you more flexibility in how you lay out the process, and makes the screw configuration less critical.

Screwtech also supplies parallel barrels and liners, and can design and manufacture bespoke parts and modifications using up to date 3D CAD modelling software. If your layout needs rethinking, they can help with more than just the vent.

Stuffers are built in high quality stainless steel, with an easy clean two-part vacuum chamber and an oil filled, water cooled gearbox. Various sizes suit twin-screw and single-screw extruders. Get in touch with Screwtech Engineering.
